frontispiece portrait. Orig. boards, uncut, paper spine considerably rubbed & 
its paper label mostly illegible, but hinges still sound. Bookplates on front

This 1800 “Second Edition” is exactly the same as the 1799 edition, but with 
the addition of the errata leaf. Semple Lisle was a notorious scoundrel who 
was sent to Australia, but when a mutiny broke out on the ship, ended up in 
South America. Earlier he had served in the English army in America during the 
Revolutionary War. At the time of publication he was a serving a term in prison.
