OF THE CONNECTICUT VALLEY IN MASSACHUSETTS, WITH ILLUSTRATIONS AND 
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES OF SOME OF ITS PROMINENT MEN AND PIONEERS, COMPLETE IN 
TWO VOLUMES.
Philadelphia: Louis H. Everts, 1879. First printing, Quarter leather, 
Quarto, 563 & [v], [564]-1111 pages, engraved plates, cuts, maps. Very Good.
      Detailed history of the counties of Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden, 
with sections on such varied topics as witchcraft, historic battles, 
railroads, and industry. There is information on military units organized 
from the area. Both volumes have colored frontispieces with tissue guards 
plus numerous other engravings and cuts. The illustrated biographical 
sketches generally include information on the subject's family as well, 
making this a valuable genealogical resource. The set is bound in dark brown 
cloth over bevelled boards with leather spines, upper boards and spines 
stamped in gilt, lower boards stamped in blind, all edges gilt. Boards are 
scuffed and rubbed with some silverfish tracks, fraying to corner tips and 
rubbing along joints. Volume I has a 1" split at top of upper joint, volume 
II has a 3/4" chip to leather at bottom of lower joint. Front hinge in 
volume one is cracked at frontispiece, though holding by sewing supports. 
Tissue guards in both volumes are moderately foxed. Shallow water tide marks 
to top edges of both textblocks.    $250.00
