Greetings Booklovers,

We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 8442 ) [Carroll, Charles] Mayer, Brantz. JOURNAL OF CHARLES CARROLL OF
CARROLLTON, DURING HIS VISIT TO CANADA IN 1776, AS ONE OF THE COMMISSIONERS
FROM CONGRESS; WITH A MEMOIR AND NOTES.
Baltimore: Maryland Historical Society, 1876. 3/4 leather, Octavo, 110
pages, Engraved portraits. Very good.
The centennial reprint of Carroll's journal during his journey to
Canada with Benjamin Franklin and fellow Marylander Samuel Chase in 1776.
Carroll's cousin, the Reverend John Carroll, also accompanied the
delegation. The purpose of the trip was to gauge the feeling of the
Canadians and, if possible, to turn their sympathies to the Americans'
cause. Bound in marbled paper over boards with leather spine and fore
corners, gilt rules, gilt spine titles. Engraved frontispiece portrait of
Charles Carroll with tissue guard. Tissue guarded engraved portraits of
Chase, Franklin, and John Carroll also illustrate the volume. See HOWES #C

inner margin. Prior owner bookplate on front pastedown. Minor extremity
rubs. Hinges not cracked. Lovely copy. $300.00

Revolution. Includes a bibliography, a census of [then] known portraits of
Carroll, and a fold-out genealogical table of the Carroll line. One of 750
letterpress copies, the type being distributed after printing. Bound in
pebbled maroon cloth over boards with spines lettered in gilt, Carroll coat
of arms in gilt on upper boards, top edges gilt. Tissue guarded
frontispieces. Small private library stamps at lower fore corners of both
front free endpapers and both title pages, number stamped on both title
pages, catalogue numbers in white at heels of both spines. A few leaves
roughly opened, a few yet unopened. Bindings and hinges remain snug, gilt
bright. Easily fine but for the institutional markings. $200.00
