These six matching bindings (five different titles) are uniformly and
finely bound in half leather over marbled boards, with the spine in
compartments, morocco spine labels, and the boards ruled in blind. All
edges are speckled, and the endpapers are grey in colour. The titles
include:

1) Davenport, R. A., /The Life of Ali Pasha, of Tepeleni, Vizier of
Epirus; surnamed Aslan, or the Lion./ Published by Thomas Tegg and Son,
London. 1837, pp. xii, 418, steel engraved frontispiece. Top of spine
sl. pulled. Frontispiece and title page foxed. Contents clean and tight.
No former owner's markings.

2) De Foe, Daniel, /A Journal of the Plague Year; or, Memorials of the
Great Pestilence in London, in 1665/. "A New Edition. Attentively
Revised and illustrated with historical notes by Edward Wedlake
Brayley." Published by Thomas Tegg and Son, London. 1835, pp. xix, 376,
with four steel engravings by George Cruikshank. Spine sl. darkened,
tips of corners, and bottom edge, rubbed. A bit of preliminary foxing.
Contents clean and tight. No former owner's markings.

3) De Segur, General Count Philip, /History of the Expedition to Russia
undertaken by the Emperor Napoleon in the year 1812./ Published by
Thomas Tegg and Son, London. 1836, pp. xvi, 350; vii, 399 - in two
volumes, with folding map in each volume, plus steel engravings (by
Prout) and woodcuts. Top of spine to second volume sl. pulled. Spine of
first volume a bit discoloured. Rubbing to bottom edges of boards, and
light scuffing to board surfaces. Maps and engravings show some foxing.
Contents clean and tight. No former owner's markings.

4) /Sketches from Venetian History/, volume one only (of two volumes).
Published by John Murray, London, 1831, pp. xi, 446. With folding map,
engraved map, engravings (by Prout) and woodcuts. Minor damage to bottom
right of spine affecting lower left of front board. Edges rubbed. Some
foxing and staining to maps and engravings. Small stain to fore edge.
Contents clean and tight. No former owner's markings.

5) Williams, The Rev. John, /The Life and Actions of Alexander the
Great/. Published by John Murray, London, 1829, pp. vi, 414. With two
folding maps. Spine a bit darkened. Boards show light scuffing.
Off-setting from maps, and foxing to preliminary pages. Contents clean
and tight. No former owner's markings.

Despite the flaws noted above, these bindings present most handsomely on
the shelf. They were probably part of the /Family Library Series/,
although there is no reference to that surmise in any of these volumes.
