& viii, 176 pages, black & white photographs, diagrams, plans. Good in a 
good dust jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
      Herreshoff's very readable treatise on the fine art of marine 
architecture. He covers shapes, rigs and sail plans, cabin arrangement, 
power plants and propellers, materials, laying off a set of lines, figuring 
displacement, measurement rules, ground tackle, the sailing machine, looks 
in relation to design, and much more. And having designed R Class winners 
Yankee and Live Yankee, M Class champion Istalena, and the most advanced of 
the 1930 America's Cup defenders in Whirlwind, Herreshoff knows very well of 
what he speaks. The original work appeared in 1946 in two volumes. This is 
the more convenient 1966 reprint with both volumes in one. TOY, #4752. Bound 
in dark blue cloth over boards with spine titled in gilt. Scattered foxing 
to endpapers and textblock edges, shallow bumps to extremities. Jacket is 
foxed and moderately soiled with a few shallow edge wrinkles.    $200.00
