LASSER, DAVID. THE CONQUEST OF SPACE. WITH A FOREWORD BY DR. H. H.
SHELDON. London: Hurst & Blackertt, Ltd., n.d., [1932]. First
London edition. 8vo, original cloth, spine faded but quite readable,
front inner joint a little rough, light rubbing. Frontispiece of a
rocket in flight, 3 plates (fueling a rocket at the Raketenflugplatz,
&c) & 6 text-illustrations (path of a rocket shot around the earth,
sectional views of 2 German rockets, flight of a rocket-plane across
the Atlantic, moon flight and return, path of a flight to Venus, &c.
Sound familiar ??) Ownership signature of Douglas Webster of
Aberdeen, Scotland, & bookplate of nuclear scientist and sci-fi
author Milton Rothman showing a man reading and looking at the
heavens. Webster was an avid sci-fi enthusiast and editor of several
fanzines. An interesting double provenance in a work some of whose
predictions have only recently come to fruition.
