This is the greatly revised edition by Gronov, after the original edition of
1601 (Gorlaeus died in 1609). The 1695 edition contains a total of 282 plates
illustrating 898 ancient rings and engraved gems, whereas the 1601 edition
contains a total of 138 plates, illustrating 344 rings and engraved gems. The
text contains laudatory poems by Hugo Grotius and Daniel Heinsius and at the back
of Volume II is the long poem on gemstones by Marbod. See Sinkankas, GEMOLOGY
#2472 for a long description. This copy with its sections of text in a
different order, but perfectly complete.
