      Illustrated travel guide aimed at "the immense numbers of intelligent 
persons who annually visit the most interesting scenes in our Northern and 
Middle States." Lots of interesting information on specific routes and means 
of travel in this period, including this observation on the nascent 
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad: "Cars with sails can sometimes go at the rate of 
25 miles an hour, and can move within four points of the wind." There is 
also a good description of a canal boat. Illustrated with nine plates and 19 
maps. Indexed. See SABIN #21538; HOWES #D607. Bound in leather over boards 
with newer leather spine and endpapers. Gilt title, ornaments, and 
horizontal rules to spine. Rubs and wear to extremities, cracks appearing
