rebacked preserving original backstrip with gilt lettering and stamping 
on the spine and the front cover which depicts a kneeling slave in 
chains above the caption: "Am I Not A Man And A Brother." Illustrated 
with ten views, portraits, and facsimiles including a youthful portrait 
of Frederick Douglass. xxxv, [ii], 564, [4-ads] pages. An eloquent 
defense of the African and a key work of the British abolitionists, with 
biographical sketches of many of the noted black figures of the day 
including Douglass, Toussaint, James W. C. Pennington, Olaudah Equiano, 
etc. Bookplate of a Baptist Missionary Society tipped to the front 
pastedown. Minor edgewear to cloth. Very clean copy of this scarce book.
