BALDWIN, James GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN
Knopf New York 1953 First Edition Baldwin's first book, this likely an
uncommon Review Copy from a paperback house with a typed slip neatly
taped to the front free endpaper on which publication details, including
date received of 4/16/53, are listed. In pencil someone has written "to
Pat offered $5000" with a May date. The book has a very faint dampstain
to the heel of the spine that wraps around both covers and is visible as
well internally on the dustwrapper and only slightly on the rear panel
externally. The front panel of the dustwrapper is intact and bright; the
rear panel has a closed two-inch tear and crease; the spine is typically
sunned with chips at the head affecting the last letters of Baldwin's
name. Near Fine in a Very Good dustwrapper, nicer than it sounds. $2000.00
