SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN SUPPLEMENT VOLUME 1. January - June 1876. Folio with
marbled boards backed with library tape, now split along outer joints;
412 pp. Shelf numbers on spine and old library plate on front
paste-down. Profusely illustrated with black & white engravings, plans,
diagrams, &c. Some pages with small closed tears; p 137-138 with 5"
ragged tear from top into text; and two pages mended with tape repairs.
Last leaf of index gone. A popular science weekly that includes such
scientific innovations as the Edinburgh Tricycle, Aquatic Velocipede,
Bridge Construction, Embalming, Compressed Air Locomotive, Chinese
Figurines, International Exhibition of 1876, Experimental Trials of the
Lay Torpedo (Wash. Navy Yard), Engines and Pumps, Archeology,
Agriculture, Engineering...a marvelous compendium of scientific
advancement of the time.

SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN SPECIAL NAVY SUPPLEMENT. New York: Munn & Co.,
(1899). Folio with original illustrated wrappers bound in; 40,(3)pp.
Color fold-out map of Cuba (tattered with numerous closed tears). "The
Ships of the Unites States Navy," with photos, deck plans, engine
drawings, gun placement, torpedo boats, &c. With Table of the New United
States Navy and industrial illustrated advertisements at rear. Large
chip missing from bottom of illustrated title page and blind library
stamp occasionally throughout including on cover wraps, title page, and
rear endpaper. Closed tear across pp5/6. Spine gone, covers detached but
present, signatures loose or detached, but content complete. Numerous
black & white illustrations, photos, plans and diagrams. Good reference.
