Schoonebeek, 1688. First edition. Text in French. 8vo (19 x 12cm), 
bound in full brown calf, raised bands and gilt-stamped title and 
designs on spine; pp: (8), 144, (6); with 73 hand-colored engraved 
plates: frontispiece/title- page + 72 (of 73) numbered plates.

More than five dozen charming engravings of monks wearing the habits of 
their different orders, vividly hand-colored, many heightened with 
gold, with a letter-press description opposite each. Title-page 
vignette, two initials, and decorative head piece also colored and 
heightened with gold.  A lovely and scarce work.

Lacking endpapers and one numbered plate (no. 72), but with an 
additional plate (no. 73) not listed in the index of illustrations...
