[9], 60pp., in original glazed speckled wrappers. Spine worn and nearly
gone, and corners bumped, but still sound. Water stain on rear blank in
outer margin but not effecting other pages. Housed in an old spotted
slipcase with paper label on spine. Henry Melchior Muhlenberg
(1711-1787) was known as the "Lutheran Pope" and responsible for the
promulgation of Lutheranism in America. Handsome engraved portrait
frontis of Muhlenberg. Title page darkened from offset of frontis, and
light toning throughout. This book includes Muhlenberg's biography,
excerpts from his diary and letters, sermons, poems and two hymns, and
the thoughts of his children and grandchildren about his death. Evans
