This work gives a detailed and careful account of the structure and 
physiology of the eye. It is one of the earliest attempts to explain the cause of the 
variety of colors of the eye. The first edition was printed in Latin in 1550. 
This 1551 Italian translation has a new 6-page introduction by G. B. Gelli, the 
translator. The author (1496-1554) was a lecturer in medicine at Pisa. BECKER
