BASEBALL / A Documentary History in Chronological Presentation from
the personal collection of Norman Kane (a fan for over 75 years)
(with a very few additions) Norman Kane attended his first game in
1932. He began to read about baseball in the pulps of the 1940s. He
bought them, in order to read them. He has been an antiquarian
bookseller for more than 50 years, a member of ABAA. He did not sell
his baseball collection until his retirement.

1910 (April) Lardner, Ringgold Wilmer (1885-1933)

Typed letter signed in type R.W.L., Saturday. Chicago Tribune
Editorial Rooms stationery, imprinted "E-512. 5M 4-10."1p.

To his mother:

       "Dear Mutter, -
We are all feeling bad over the death of George
McDonald, who was one of the best people in the business. Evers is
just about sick over it and so is Chance. I don't think many of us
can attend the funeral, which is to take place Monday afternoon, but
the baseball writers are going to send a 'floral tribute', just as if
that would do any good.
The rain of today spoiled our chances of having two off days
in succession and I may not be able even to get away Friday. If I
can, I will come over to see you for a few hours anyway.
Coach Yost of Michigan was up to see us last night and I had a
long talk with him.
Art and Pope McKissick, whose wife is still in the south, are
coming to our house tomorrow, but I will be at the ball game if the
rain stops in time.
                                                                                           R.W.L."
