8vo. 98,(2)pp. Fine copper engraved title page; 7 full-page engraved plates,
with engraved text below; and, a large engraved vignette on the final leaf of
colophon, all by Raphael Sadeler. Finely bound in 18th century straight grained
red morocco, gilt spine. A.e.g. A fine copy with the leather bookplate of
Robert Hoe. Housed in a tan cloth slipcase. $1,250.00
The first edition of this very scarce work, with fine engravings by one of
the masters of book illustration at this date. The text is a poetical patchwork
composition taken from Virgil and Ovid by four authors: P. Falconia, F. Pola,
B. Brusch and C. Scribanius. See Praz. A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF EMBLEM-BOOKS, p.485,
with the note that this title is sometimes included in lists of emblem books,
