YOUTH. TWO EIGHTEENTH CENTURY CHARACTER SKETCHES.
[Cedar Rapids]; The Torch Press: 1905.
One of 15 copies printed on Japan vellum.
Character studies of two unhappy English 18th century imposter-writers:
Richard Savage, poet, friend of Johnson and Pope, and pretender to the
Macclesfield fortune, who died in debtors prison; and Thomas Chatterton,
the brilliant boy-poet who pretended to be a 15th century monk and took
poison before his 18th birthday.
One of the earliest publications of the Torch Press. An additional 200
regular copies were printed. Miner was a well-known bookseller and
author of historical material, and ran the Torch Press bookshop between
1909 and 1917.
Hardcover. 3x5.25, 65 pages; publishers black cloth and linen spine;
marbled endpapers; light soil, very minor staining on the cover. Inscribed
by the author on the colophon page- To Everybody Xmas 05 -Bill.

courtesies to institutions and the trade; Postage charges are $5.00 for

U.S. will be billed at cost. We accept returns if we are notified within
ten days of your receipt of the books-please ask for full instructions and
terms. Massachusetts residents must add 5% state sales tax.
