Newport News: The Mariner's Museum, (1981). First printing, Full cloth, 
Quarto, viii, 283 pages, black and white photographs. Fine in a very good 
dust jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
      Epic tribute to the amazing ship S. S. United States as she crowned 
the career of designer William Francis Gibbs. This amazing ship was designed 
to be the fastest and safest luxury liner ever built and embodied numerous 
highly secret specifications that remained classified by Navy well into the 
1970s. There were no fireproof materials used in her construction and she is 
known to have reached speeds of over 44 knots (50 mph). The book is bound in 
dark blue cloth over boards with spine titled in gilt, blue endpapers. No 
significant wear to book other than a few tiny extremity rubs and slight 
(1/8" or so) bump to top fore corner of upper board. Clean and sound with no 
prior ownership marks. Jacket has some rubs along fore edge folds and upper 
joint fold, a rubbed wrinkle at each top corner of front panel, and a few 
other bits of minor edge wear. Front jacket flap has a few creases.
