We offer for Sale:
Bolton, Arthur T. and Hendry, H. Duncan, eds. THE WREN SOCIETY.
VOLUME I-XX [TWENTY VOLUMES COMPLETE]. Oxford: Issued only to
Subscribers / Printed for the Wren Society at the University Press
1924-1943. 4to. (12.5 x 10 in). Quarter tan cloth over paper backed
boards, black titles. Freitag 13644. Arntzen & Rainwater J217. First
edition.
This catalogue raisonne contains reprints of nearly all of Wren's
architectural output, except for new discoveries found in 1951, and
that of his followers. Christopher Wren (1632-1723), the most famous
British architect, as surveyor of the king's works, a position he
held for four decades beginning in 1669, built many of London's
landmarks after the great fire including St. Paul's. "Relevant not
only to Wren but to the whole architectural scene from 1660 -1715,"
Summerson. Top edges foxed and soiled, else very good, boards rubbed,
occasional soiling, corners a bit bumped with wear, otherwise leaves
bright, clean, and unmarked, bindings solid, plates crisp, a very
nice set with fine contents. [30186] $1350.00
