[Fine Press-Paper Marbling]. Weisse, Franz. The Art of Marbling. Translated
form the German with an Introduction and fourteen original marbled specimens
by Richard J. Wolfe. North Hills, PA: Bird & Bull Press, 1980. Limited
edition. Quarto. 107pp. With more than 100 illustrations, including fourteen
examples of marbled paper ("patterns completed with the needle"; "Fantasy
Marbling"; and "Overmarbling") and ninety illustrations from photographs.
Additionally, tipped-in are two reproductions of a paper marbling work shop,
from Diderot's eighteenth century 'Encyclopedie'. Quarter bound in Oasis
leather with marbled paper over boards, and leather tips; worn through a bit
at tips of front board; about Near Fine. One of three hundred copies.

The first English translation of this important work, (originally published
in Germany in 1940), which "constitutes the first and only successful
attempt to present the materials, techniques and various stages of marbling
pictorially, through the medium of photography, as well as descriptively."
