FROM THE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS.   Philadelphia: Printed for
the Seventy-Six Society; Collins, Printer, 1855.  First edition, 
limited to 250 copies according to New USiana D175.  Original cloth, 
blindstamping on both covers, spine imprinted in gilt, an excellent 
copy, partly unopened.  Bookplate of prominent Pennsylvanian George 
Dawson Coleman and an old pencil docket on end paper.   (Includes 
Congressional Hearings, Deane's lengthy apologia in defense of 
accusations of dishonesty while a delegate in Paris, &c. The 
Seventy-Six Society was the first American book club. - see Growoll, 
"American Book Clubs."  It lasted for only 3 years and issued 4 
historical works on the American Revolution in limited editions, of 
which this was the first. The manuscripts which
form the substance of the work were obtained from the family of Henry 
Laurens of South Carolina, sometime President of the Continental
