"The Greater German Reich before us today, so strong, so large, so
courageous, is the work of Adolf Hitler." So begins this review of
the shipbuilders Blohm & Voss, signed in December of the
"Kriegsjahres" 1939. The company and the two brothers who ran it
during this time were strong Nazi supporters and beneficiaries of the
party largess. From 1933 to 1939 the work force of B&V grew from
under 2700 to over 15000 as Hitler gave the company naval and
aircraft orders, having them build first naval yachts, then tenders,
escorts, three destroyers, the Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, and
finally the largest battleship in the world at that time, the
Bismarck (in addition to building the Wilhelm Gustloff and other high
speed steamers as Germany prepared to resume her position as a
colonial power and more). Hitler visited the plant five times during
this period. There are photos of his visits as well as of his
dedicating the Wilhelm Gustloff (which was sunk at the end of the war
in the greatest loss of life in naval history and was the subject of
Gunter Grass' Crab Walk). Articles on production, the Passenger
Steamer Potsdam (with plans), the Battleship Bismarck (completed in
February), other ships and aircraft, Nazi rallies at the plants,
factories, poems, cartoons, lists of workers and their dates of
employment. Scarce. OCLC shows only one copy.

Wear on the spine and front hinge just starting, but still very good.
