edition of the atlas volume (only); the 3 text volumes not present.
Atlas folio, approx. 23 X 16 1/2 inches, old half leather with marbled boards,
scuffed. 86 text pages plus 54 (of 60) color plates on heavy
paper. A few leaves with old marginal paper repairs, including title
leaf, some text pages with foxing and corner soiling, one plate with
foxing, &c. (A work many decades ahead of its time, the Atlas being
especially notable for its careful illustrations based on
abnormalities derived from autopsies done by the author. Most plates
contain at least several illustrations. The "Atlas won him
widespread praise and is still often cited" - Gottschalk, ed., "From
Bright's Disease to Modern Nephrology: Pierre Rayer's innotative
method of clinical investigation." The missing plates are #s 3 &
