DYKE, A. L. : ST. LOUIS, MO. DYKES' PROGRESSIVE CHART MANIKIN OF THE
AUTOMOBILE SHOWING HOW THE AUTOMOBILE PARTS ARE ASSEMBLED INTO A
COMPLETE CAR, WITH ALL PARTS NAMED. 1913. Dyke, A. L. : St. Louis
,Mo. The text is in an oblong 4to, 16 Pp. The booklet is the
"Manikin", itself which consists a series of detailed three
dimensional drawings of the workings of the car. There also are a
series of separate boards with the movable car part in metal with
printed color and text these appear on both sides of the card. The
models were issued separately. This group includes all of those
mentioned in an ad for one of them, included, and may be complete.
These parts are:

"The Car: Working Model of A Carburetor" here, one side shows the
outside, the other a cutaway showing the inside.
"The Car: Working model of a differential gear." By Geo. C. Sherrrin A.M.I.A.E.
"The High Tension Magneto" There is some loss of text at top and bottom.
"Four Cycle Gasoline Engine"
" Working Model of Clutch and Gear Box."

Dykes is here trying to make new owners of cars, and owners of
services stations more knowledgeable about the construction and
function of the automobile in ways which will help them to service
it, repair it, and replace broken parts. The machine was quite
complicated and required a knowledge of electricity as well as the
finctions of the internal combustion engine. Such functions as the
clutch were also new and difficult.
