Freeman 1141/1142:  leaf 2C2 not signed (1st state); no misprint on 
p.208 (1st state);all four points in the advts are in the 1st state; 
height of leaves 189 mm (2nd state); no blank before title (2nd 
state); plates with Roman numerals ("probable" 2nd state.)   The word 
"heliotype" is present on plate V (sometimes missing.) Original green 
cloth stamped in gold & blind, light wear; closed tear in end paper 
mended; bookplate of H. Stanton Hill by Cathy Hill featuring 
breakers, cliff, and book titles by Darwin Lyell, Dana et al (Hill 
was Professor of Geology at Pasadena City College); slight marginal 
abrasion on p. 369; nickel-size smudge on lower margin of p. 
[iii.]  Altogether, a very presentable copy of a scarce work, 
complete with 21 text-illustrations & 7 plates (3 folding.)  Vi, 374,
