PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, SATURDAY, JAN. 24, 1976. 4 STAR EDITION. On the front page in large type is the headline, "Paul Robeson Is Dead." The front page also includes a photo of Robeson in the role of Othello on Broadway in 1943. The article occupies all of page 3, with photos of Robeson picketing the White House in 1948 and being escorted by police from a
concert in 1949, surrounded by protesters. Because of illness the great athlete/singer/actor spent his last years in seclusion in West Philly at the home of his sister. The Daily News is a tabloid with a large Afro-American readership. Robeson's father was a slave in N. Carolina. Lower right margin a little frayed and the paper moderately toned, otherwise in very good condition. A great display item. $150.00 (Trade Discount Available)
