Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 7783 ) Sears, Stephen W. LANDSCAPE TURNED RED: THE BATTLE OF ANTIETAM
(GEN. MATTHEW B. RIDGWAY'S COPY).
New Haven: Ticknor & Fields, 1983. First printing, Hardcover, Octavo, xiv,
431 pages, Black & white photographs, map drawings. Very good in a very
good, price clipped dust jacket, Jacket in Mylar protector.
Perhaps the best single book on Antietam. Examines the political and
military situation in the weeks just before the battle. Discusses Lincoln's
timing of the Emancipation Proclamation as well as the famous 'Lost Order.'
Extensively researched. Excellent maps by Herbert S. Borst show troop
movements down to the regimental level. An order of battle is included.
Thorough bibliography. This is Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway's copy with his dated
ownership signature on front free endpaper. Gen. Ridgway's circular embossed
monogram is at lower fore corner of front free endpaper and half title.
Bound in slate blue paper over boards with dark blue cloth spine,
gilt-stamped spine title. There are a few minor stains to textblock edges
and a bit of a ridge to spine. Ridgway has made a few discreet underlinings
in text. Jacket has minor edge wear. $200.00
