(LIVINGSTONE, David) COOMBS, John Hartley. DR. LIVINGSTONE'S 17
YEARS' EXPLORATIONS AND ADVENTURES IN THE WILDS OF AFRICA.
Philadelphia: J. T. Lloyd 1857. First Edition. Octavo. 334 pp.
Original black cloth; illustrated with a folding map and plates.
Since the preface is dated from London, we assume that this was
published there prior to the American edition. The editor claims to
have published this book because Livingstone has, "in the most
unequivocal manner, expressed a determination not to give, at the
present time, any written account of his African researches, from
under his own hand." An uncommon book. Tear to folding map. Moderate
foxing throughout. Only light wear. Nice copy. $200.00
