Eight volumes of a total of thirteen published of ORDNANCE NOTES:
Ordnance Department. United States Army, Washington, D.C.. All are
collections of articles on every aspect of ordnance from weapons to
manufacturing. Illustrated with numerous engravings, drawings, and
tables; many plates folding. 4to. Red cloth stamped in gilt, all
edges marbled. First editions. All are gifts to the Illinois
Commandery from Gen. S[tephen] V[incent] Benet, Chief of Ordnance.
All are very good copies (unless otherwise noted) with the bookplate
of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States,
Commandery of the State of Illinois on free front end papers, shelf
stickers on foot of backstrips, boards finger soiled.

ORDNANCE NOTES [NOS. 126 TO 167, INCLUSIVE] FROM THE ORDNANCE
OFFICE, WAR DEPARTMENT. Washington, D.C.: [Ordnance Dept], 1880 -
1881. 42 articles including a 62 page section with 27 plates, most
folding, on the manufacture and uses of files and rasps. Boards and
spine detached, boards soiled, text block still solid with all
leaves firmly attached, plates sharp and bright, a good copy.

OFFICE, WAR DEPARTMENT. Washington, D.C.: [Ordnance Dept], 1881 -
1882. 38 including Maitland's discussion "On the Metallurgy and
Manufacture of Modern British Ordnance" with 20 plates. Shallow
tear to head of spine else a very good, faint darkening to contents

the Egyptian Campaign, 1882 (69 pp) and nine plates on Nordenfelt
Machine Guns. Rear hinge just starting, shallow chip to head of

OFFICE, WAR DEPARTMENT. Washington, D.C.: [Ordnance Dept], 1883. 25
articles including much on foreign armies, a prize essay on "warfare
against uncivilized forces" no doubt due to the Afghanistan incursion
which also merits an article: Account of the Geographical Operations
on Afghanistan in 1878-80. Faint darkening else contents fine.

ORDNANCE NOTES [NOS. 285 TO 319, INCLUSIVE] FROM THE ORDNANCE
OFFICE, WAR DEPARTMENT. Washington, D.C.: [Ordnance Dept], 1883. 35
articles including an 80 page article "Ballistic Apparatus Employed
by the French Marine Artillery" with 19 folding engraved plates
Hinges cracked, faint darkening and soiling to contents, else crisp;
a good or better copy. [31667] $400.00
ORDNANCE NOTES [NOS. 320 TO 333, INCLUSIVE] FROM THE ORDNANCE
OFFICE, WAR DEPARTMENT. Washington, D.C.: [Ordnance Dept], 1883 -
1884. 14 articles including a 69 page article with 29 folding plates
on Mars-La-Tour and Gravelotte, two decisive battles of the
Franco-Prussian War on Aug. 16 and Aug 18 1870, the former notable
for one of the very few successful cavalry charges of modern warfare;
large folding plates contain maps and plans for the battles. Front
hinge just starting, spine ends worn, a few plates raged at the

ORDNANCE NOTES [NOS. 334 TO 357, INCLUSIVE] FROM THE ORDNANCE
OFFICE, WAR DEPARTMENT. Washington, D.C.: [Ordnance Dept], 1884. 24
articles including a 58 page "Report on trans-continental railways,
1883," with a large folding map and a piece on Hawaii: Front hinge
just starting, spine ends worn, else a very good copy, faint

American Express, Mastercard, and Visa. Foreign orders should be in
U.S. funds on a U.S. bank. New York residents please add appropriate
sales tax or forward a tax id number. Libraries and Institutions can
be billed. Trade allowance. Postage for Domestic orders is $4.00 for
the first book and $1.50 for each additional volume. Books are
normally shipped Media Mail. For international orders, postage is
calculated individually. All books may be returned in original
condition for any reason within two weeks with prior notification.
