approximately 1,500 copies. 1st edition, small 8vo, pp. 310. Bound in 
original light green cloth, with stylized Misty Mountain scene across 
the top and a dragon design embossed on the bottom of the front and rear 
boards. Endpaper maps in black and red. Ten black-and-white 
illustrations by the author. Encased in a facsimile dust jacket.

A two-part movie of this title is planned for release in December 2011, 
and December 2012, the first film being a direct adapation of the novel 
with /Lord of the Rings/ director Peter Jackson serving as executive 
producer and co-writer.

This is an unsophisticated copy, not without flaws, but essentially in
