OPPENHEIMER, Joel. POEMS 1962-1968 with TWO TYPED LETTERS SIGNED
(TLSs). Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill (1969). First Edition. Laid in
are two TYPED LETTERS SIGNED as "Joel" by the poet to James Ryan
Morris with one envelope. Morris was a beat poet and publisher who
died of a drug overdose in 1978. Though undated, one letter belongs
to the envelope postmarked 1975, and the other dates from 1969 as it
refers to the publication of the book: "did i tell you about my new
book? bobbs-merrill, summer or fall, 152 poems (!), hardbound and
paper. i suppose that means i've made it. where's my nobel prize?"
There is also one long interesting paragraph in which Oppenheimer
describes interest in and negotiations about the rights of his play,
THE GREAT AMERICAN DESERT. A student under poet Charles Olson at
Black Mountain College, Oppenheimer was anthologized as one of the
original Black Mountain Poets in Donald Allen's anthology NEW
AMERICAN POETRY (1960). Fine in Fine dustwrapper; letters Very Good.
                                                                $250.00
