5) NOTES D'ASTORONOMIE SYRIENNE Par F. Nau 
Extrait du Journal Asiatique (Septembre-Octobre 
1910). Paris: Imprimerie Nationale. 1910. First 
separate eition. Smaller octavo, [205]-228 pp, 
original front wrapper bound in, signed by the 
author. Text in French and Arabic.

Together, 5 volumes, all pertaining to Syrian Astrology and Astronomy.

The first work is a translation of the "Book of 
the Laws of the Countries" the oldest remnant of 
Syriac literature, by a disciple of  Bardesanes 
(Bar-Daisan), a second-century Syrian Gnostic, 
poet, astrologist, and philosopher.

The second work is a translation of Sullarat 
Haunãnãyã (Ascent of the Mind), a treatise on 
astronomy and cosmography by the 13th Century 
author Bar-Hebraeus, a bishop of the Syriac Orthodox Church.

The third work is an essay by Nau on Syrian 
Cosmology of the 7th Century concentrating on the 
works of Sergius de Reschaina and Severe Sebokt.

The fourth work is a translation of a "a 
magnificent treatise on the astolabe" by the 7th 
Century doctor, philosopher, mathematician and 
astronomer Severus Saboukt - the first 
translation of this important manuscript,

The final work is a collection of short essays by 
Nau which contains "Les Conjonctions des Planetes 
d'Apres Bardesane"; Atalia, ou le Dragon Celeste, 
cause des Eclipses de Lune, d'Apres Severe 
Sebokt"; "La Plus Acienne Mention orientale des 
Chiffres Indiens"; & "La Date du Traite de Severe 
Sebokt sur L'Astrolabe Plan".

The five items bound together in marble boards 
with cloth spine, gilt title on spine simply "F. 
Nau"; some browning and foxing. A few small notes 
in pencil. Minor wear to binding edges. Overall, 
a very good copy. All the books in this collection are of great rarity.
