IN FRENCH, AND TRANSLATED FOR THE AUTHOR, BY H. P. NUGENT.
Philadelphia: John Conrad and Co., 1816. xx, 264, cxc pp. 8vo. Full
contemporary tree calf, spine ruled in gilt with red morocco label
(hardback). Sabin 39214; Howes L124; Streeter II:1075; Shaw &
Shoemaker 38034/5. First edition.
"Chief authority, well documented on these operations. Portrait
evidently not issued in all copies," (Howes). This copy without the
portrait and lacking the atlas. Latour (1778-1837) was General
Jackson's chief engineer and provides here the best and most accurate
picture of the New Orleans campaign. Extremities worn, headband and
label chipped else very good with the bookplate of the Military Order
of the Loyal Legion of the United States, Commandery of the State of
Illinois on front pastedown, shelf sticker on foot of backstrip,
scattered foxing and toning, title leaf opened a bit roughly at the
top corner and following two leaves creased at the corners, binding
