Amasa Delano (1763-1817), born in Duxbury, Mass., made several
voyages to all parts of the world, including the Palau, Hawaiian,
Galapagos, and Pitcairn Islands; Manila, Canton, and Macao; New
Guinea, Australia, and the East Indies, and Chile and Peru. His long
account of the mutiny on the Bounty and the mutineers' colony on
Pitcairn Island was the first to reach America; and his account of
his actions in the Negro mutiny and seizure of the Spanish ship
Tryal, commanded by Don Benito Cereno, off the west coast of South
America, became the primary source of Melville's story 'Benito
Cereno.'

Rebacked in brown cloth with contemporary spine label, original sheep
boards, rubbed and worn, with loss at the corners, new endpapers,
title page expertly restored (at the edges), leaves with scattered
foxing and light staining, 1/4 inch closed tear to the upper margin
of map not affecting borders, otherwise crisp, half a dozen pages
with pencil marginalia, about a dozen phrases or words in brackets or
underlined lightly in ink, overall a nice copy. [28413] $800.00
