Simpson, Sophia S. "TWO HUNDRED YEARS AGO; OR, A BRIEF HISTORY OF
CAMBRIDGEPORT AND EAST CAMBRIDGE, with notices of some of the early
settlers. A Christmas and Birthday Gift for Young persons"

Boston; Otis Clapp: 1859.

An interesting informal history of Cambridgeport through the 17th and 18th
centuries, including some reminiscences of the author’s life there as a
girl in the early 19th century. Perhaps most interesting is her vivid and
memorable account of the "Great Gale" (a Category 3 hurricane) of
September 23, 1815.

Hardcover. 5"x6", 111 pages, woodcut frontispiece of the Inman House and 1
b/w illustration. Publisher’s embossed blue cloth with a fancy gilt urn on
the cover and elaborate gilt spine decorations. Covers somewhat rubbed,
top and base of spine a bit threadbare. A few period pencil notations.
[32125] $200.00
