"An Incident of ’62"

By Henry Wood Erving.

Hartford; private printed: 1932. “Sixty copies have been printed for the
author on Glaslan paper at the Wayside Press”.

An interesting privately-published booklet by a Founding Member of the
Walpole Society, and noted amateur historian and Americana collector.
Erving had boyhood memories of the Civil War, and here recounts a story
told him many years later by Lt. Col. E.N. Phelps of the 22nd Regiment,
Connecticut Volunteers, about an incident at church when a substitute
preacher who opposed the War tried to condense the weekly prayer for
Abraham Lincoln. Let's just say that Colonel Phelps was having none of
that...

The booklet is illustrated with a photographic reproduction of a Civil
War-era photograph of Phelps in uniform, and an original silver-print
portrait of Phelps as an old man.

Softcover. 6.5”x9.5”, 21 pages, with 2 photographs tipped-in. Light wear
at the cover margins, else in nice, clean condition. Inscribed by Erving.
$150.00
