Collins, Lewis and Collins, Richard H.
History of Kentucky
Kentucky Historical Society, 1966, Hardcover, 4to 11" - 13" tall, VG-/

"Embracing pre-historic, annals for 331 years, outline, and by counties,
statistics, antiquities and natural curiosities, geographical and
geological descriptions, sketches of the court of appeals, the churches,
Freemasonry, Odd Fellowship, and internal improvements, incidents of
pioneer life, and nearly five hundred biographical sketches of
distinguished pioneers, soldiers, statesmen, jurists, lawyers, surgeons,
divines, merchants, historians, editors, artists, etc., etc." and that's
just the beginning, folks.

The two-volume facsimile reprint of the 1874 edition with its additions
and revisions by the author's son Richard H. Collins: much more material
and illustrations than reprints of the 1847 or any other single-volume
edition. Black and white illustrations: 84 portraits, map of Kentucky,
and 70 other engravings. Vol I covers the above topics as well as poets,
historians, post offices, distances by rail, etc., 683pp, includes
General Index and Supplemental Index. Vol II is entirely county
histories, 804pp, includes General Index.

In the publisher's blue cloth on boards, gilt titles to spines. Corners,
spine ends, and spines lightly rubbed. A few tiny, white spots to spine
at ends. Faint foxing to outer edges of text block. Vol I starting in
the gutter of the title page, still sound. Vol II tiny stain to
pastedown and endpaper.

Contemporary ownership signature of Eula H.(?) Freeman. With the later
ownership blind stamp of Jack McKim Vorhies, noted numismatic author of
books about obsolete bank notes. Conservatively VG-, interior much nicer
than that. Essential for the historian or genealogist. $95.00 USD
