THE JUNIOR SPECTATOR. VOLUME ONE, NUMBERS 1 & 2. N. Y., 1902. FIRST (& ONLY?) ISSUES. Both bear the date Dec. 15, 1902 (#2 in error.) Morris Ernst is listed as Editor (presumably the prominent attorney & co-founder of the ACLU); Douglas C. McMurtrie is listed as Business Manager; Edward Goodman, Wm. Cane & Melville Blun were the Board of Editors (Goodman was presumably the movie director of that name & Blun was probably the F. Melville Blum, Princeton Class of 1909. Ernst, McMurtrie & Goodman were all born in 1888,and it is reasonable to assume they were classmates.) Original wrappers, approx. 9 X 6 inches, wrappers fragile, chipped & repaired, #2 lacks rear wrapper. 8 pages each. P. [1] of #2 has marginal darkening, and manuscript attribution of the "Editorial" to McMurtrie and one other ms. attribution to another person for a cowboy story. Goodman's ownership signature appears on the wrapper of #2. McMurtrie's name is misspelled in #1 and is corrected in the Errata. The wrapper of #2 also repeats "#1", which is corrected by hand. Among the advts, Ernst was able to wangle a half-page advt. from his family. RARE (UNIQUE ?) McMURTRIE/ERNST INCUNABLES produced by a small group of 14-year-old chums. Not in the Union List of Serials; not in OCLC. $200.00 (Trade Discount Available)
