large folding copper engraved frontispiece. Cont. calf, a bit rubbed, minor chips 
at extremities of spine, red morocco spine label, quite a nice copy.

Holwell (1711-1798) was Governor of Bengal and a surgeon for the East India 
Company. This is his account of the "Black Hole" where 123 of 146 prisoners 
perished overnight (though later historians dispute those numbers).
