engravings, and 1 folding map. 8vo. Original publisher's red cloth 
stamped in blind with gilt illustration of hunting from an elephant 
on front board, new spine and marbled endpapers. Abbey Travel 471. 
First edition.

Butler's first book on Assam which was continued with Travels and 
Adventures in the Province of Assam, during a residence of fourteen 
years (1855). OCLC shows one copy only: Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. 
Provenance: James Hooper Law from E. R. Roberts, Fort Hill, 1849; 
thence Robert Cornish, 1887 who signed on verso first blank.  [33788]
