illustrated throughout with fine colour plates. Carrie Estelle 
Betzold (1875-1958) married Edward L. Doheny, a Wisconsin-born 
Colorado miner who discovered oil in Los Angeles in 1892. When her 
husband died, Estelle Doheny inherited a fortune, with which she 
created a fine book collection. From the Gutenberg Bible and many 
fine early printed books and manuscripts to classics of Literature, 
Fine Bindings and Western Americana, she meticulously bought the 
finest copies available. Her collection of William Morris material 
includes Morris' original illustrated and illuminated manuscripts of 
THE STORY OF FRITHIOF THE BOLD and Virgil's AENEID. A stunning 
collection, the life-work of a gifted and insightful collector.
