"Vegetable Substances: Materials of Manufactures"

Published in London by Charles Knight in 1833.

A charmingly illustrated survey of plants, flowers and trees that were
used in manufacturing during the early decades of the Industrial
Revolution. Includes materials for weaving, basket-making, paper, tanning,
oils, resins and gums and, of course, an extensive section on dyes. The
wood-engraved illustrations are extremely well done, showing the plants in
their native habitat usually accented by either people or wildlife. This
was issued as part of The Library of Entertaining Knowledge.

Hardcover. 4.5”x7”, xii + 456 pages, with 61 wood-engraved text
illustrations. Bound in old cream cloth with a plain leather spine label.
Covers moderately soiled and a bit rubbed (see photo). Contents with a few
minor instances of foxing, but overall clean and good. $85.00
