Greetings Booklovers,
We are pleased to offer:
~
(No. 9599 ) Jackson, John Collins (1848-1909). GRANT'S STRATEGY AND OTHER
ADDRESSES.
Westerville, OH: American Issue Publishing Company, (1910). First printing,
Original cloth, Duodecimo, 165 pages + ads, black and white portrait. Very
Good.
Jackson was a Methodist minister and in later life edited The American
Issue, which was the official organ of the Anti-Saloon League. He had
enlisted, at age 15, in Company H, 159th Ohio Volunteer Infantry where he
served as a drummer and fifer. His address on the strategy of General Grant
at Chattanooga discusses the battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary
Ridge. This is followed by an address on the Union and Confederate armies
during the war. The rest of the book contains other sermons and a
biographical history of Jackson. Uncommon. Bound in dark blue cloth over
boards with black topstain, faded gilt spine titles. There is a
tissue-guarded photographic portrait of Jackson preceding the title page.
