  [MEDICINE - WINE - RECIPES]. MEDICAL MANUSCRIPT FROM VERY EARLY 
NINETEENTH CENTURY with RECIPES FOR WINE. n.p., 1801 on. Crown quarto 
(5-3/4" x 7-3/4") bound in full period vellum with one brass clasp, the 
other lacking containing hundreds of manuscript recipes written in a 
legible hand on 247 pages with a further 9 pages at the end, dos-a-dos, 
of recipes for wine--Gooseberry, Imperial Pop, Currant, etc. Likely 
British in origin with the first page dated 1801. Contents include 
Scotts Pills, Asiatic Dentrifice, Godfreys Cordial, Coerate Spermacaeti, 
Tinct Sacra Vinosa, Sulphur Anis, Radcliffs Elixir, Batemans Drops, 
British Oil, Bug Poison, For the Cough, For the Wind, Cold Cream, For a 
Cold, Sheep Powder, Rat Paste, Tooth Powder, Jesuits Drops, Worm Cakes, 
Pill Antivenereal, Purging Balls, Fly Water for Sheep, etc. Also 
included are a number of general recipes such as for Red Sealing Wax, 
Colours for Windows, Indian Curry Powder, Oil Varnish, Dyes, Marking 
Ink, Gold Lacquer, etc. Fascinating compilation. Laid in is an old 
British bookseller's catalogue description of this volume. Fine.
