Gentleman's Magazine 1752 - BENJAMIN FRANKLIN & ELECTRICITY
The Gentleman's Magazine, and Historical Chronicle. Volume XXII. For  
the Year MDCCLII [1752]. London: Edward Cave at St. John's Gate,  
[1752]. Twelve monthly issues, plus supplement, volume title, indices  
and preface. Hardcover 8vo, period calf sympathetically rebacked with  
gilt-stamped leather spine; 612 + [20] pp.; numerous woodcut diagrams,  
illustrations and plans, charts and tables, musical notation, and  
sixteen engraved plates (some folding).
An important volume, containing several articles relating to BENJAMIN  
FRANKLIN and his experiments in electricity, including:
In the December issue: A New Method of extracting lightening [sic]  
from the clouds, by B. Franklin, Franklin's own letter from  
Philadelphia, dated October 19, 1752, describing his legendary  
experiment with the kite and the key. (Mild staining to part of the  
text, not affecting legibility.)
In the May issue: A new Hypothesis for explaining the Phenomena of  
Thunder, Lightning, and Rain. Being an Extract from B. Franklin's  
Experiments and Observations on Electricity... lately translated into  
French at Paris.
The above Hypothesis is in part confirmed by some Experiments lately  
made in France, as appears in the following Letter from Paris, May 26.
In the July issue: An Apparatus for demonstrating Franklin's new  
theory of thunder, demonstrated and described (with an accompanying  
illustration)
In the August issue: Franklin's theory further demonstrated at St.  
John's Gate.
In the October issue: On Mr. Franklin's principles of electricity.
Proposal for applying Mr. Franklin's electrical invention to the  
explosions frequent in mines, &c.
