The Humble Address of the Right Honourable the Lords Spiritual &  
Temporal in Parliament Assembled, Presented to His Majesty on  
Wednesday the Fourteenth Day of May, 1701. And His Majesties Most  
Gracious Answer Thereunto. London: Printed by Charles Bill, and the  
Executrix of Thomas Newcomb, Deceas'd, 1701. FIRST EDITION. Two  
leaves, folio (30 x 18 cm), preserved in modern buckram binding with  
gilt-stamped titles to spine.

The address, actually delivered to King William II on May 10, concerns  
England's role in the brewing War of the Spanish Succession. The Lords  
here urge the king to "make Good all the articles of any former Treaty  
to the States General" and offer unqualified support for going to war  
against he "Danger arising from the Union of France and Spain." A  
Lilly Library duplicate (with a pencilled note on the front paste-down  
"Released 14 Apr 1982"), with its gilt-stamped shelving number on the  
front cover, small wormhole to the margins and two short edge-tears,  
mild toning, otherwise clean and fresh.
