Union with Scotland. To be continued during the Treaty here. Part I.
London: [n.p.] Printed in the Year 1706. Disbound small 4to (7.25 x

Defoe, tireless intelligence agent and propagandist in the service
Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford, here begins his series of pamphlets
defending the proposed Act of Union with Scotland. "This first essay,
directed at the English, seeks to allay their fears about the Union.
Defoe argues that the Union would strengthen England in every way,
from the Church of England, to trade, to the ability to fend off
foreign invaders" ("Daniel Defoe: The Collection of the Lilly Library").
