Domenico Troili (1722-1792), a Jesuit cleric, was the first person to
document the fall of a meteorite and collect its fragments; though he
failed to recognize its extra-terrestrial origin and attributed it to a
subterranean volcanic explosion that had propelled the rock skyward. De
