The Works of Robert Burns; With an Account of his Life, and a
Criticism on His Writings. To which are Prefixed, Some Observations on
the Character and Condition of the Scottish Peasantry. Philadelphia:
Published by William Fairbairn, 1804. Three volumes, 12mo (17.5 x 10.5
cm), in full period tree calf; 363, 347, 342 pp.; portrait frontispiece.

The publisher William Fairbairn was a Scot, born in Roxburghshire in
1762, and had known Burns before emigrating to America in 1796. An
uncommon early printing of Burns's works from an uncommon early
American imprint. We find no other examples available in the
bookdealer databases and a search of OCLC turns up none but microform
copies. Contents: v. 1. Life of Burns. General correspondence,
including pieces of miscellaneous poetry; v. 2. Letters, &c.
Correspondence with Mr. George Thomson; v. 3. Poems. Appendix. Glossary.
