photographs by F. B. Johnston. Born a slave, Washington founded Tuskegee
Institute, becoming its first president, at the age of 25. This book,
the sequel to UP FROM SLAVERY covering Washington's experiences in
industrial training at Tuskegee, is INSCRIBED and SIGNED on the front
free endpaper "with kind wishes/of/Booker T. Washington/Tuskegee/
Alabama/Mar. 30, 1905." Books inscribed by Washington, especially in
this condition, are uncommon. Slightest of wear to one corner. Fine,
